If you are wondering who we are and what MIUARA is all about, here is a little glimpse into the people behind it, beginning with a photo of the two of us on our flight to Banjul on 26 November 2025 ⤵︎
MIU ⸺ Born and raised in Switzerland, I have traveled extensively and witnessed a lot of animal suffering along the way. After more than eighteen years working as a graphic designer, a passion I continue to pour into MIUARA, I felt a growing calling to dedicate myself to something more meaningful. That longing led me to fully embrace dog rescue, inspired by Maddox, my beloved dog who passed away in September 2025. Alongside this journey, I am beginning my training as a nursing assistant. I currently live in Bern.
ARA ⸺ A native Gambian, and my partner on the ground. He has lived in Europe for over twenty years, fifteen of them in Sweden, where he raised two children and worked as a nursing assistant. His role in our project is to communicate with local veterinarians, mobilise people, and manage all logistics, including rent, accommodation, food, vehicles, water tanks, and everything else our project needs to operate. Ara currently lives in Geneva.
Together, we speak English, German, French, Spanish, Swedish, and Wolof.
